“Civic engagement means working to make a difference in the civic life of our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference. It means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes…”
Much of the work that we do is centered on civic action. These are some examples of action that promote engagement:
- Political participation through voting, voter registration, poll watching
- Advocating for legislation and good governance
- Running for elected office
- Volunteering with community based organizations
Voter Outreach and Education
We take an active role in providing our communities with voter education, voter registration, and implementing GOTV strategies.
We use traditional canvassing tactics such as door-knocking and phone banking but the COVID-19 pandemic has caused us to rely mostly on no-contact methods in order to reduce the spread of illness in vulnerable communities. Since 2020, strategies include a robust digital media campaign, radio, GOTV mailers, while attempting to coordinate the dissemination of information between the county clerks and tribes.
